Chances are if you have talked about the Phillies making a trade recently, it involved them selling off Cliff Lee or Jonathan Papelbon, not picking up a 38-year old infielder with little ability at the plate. But, if you had one of those discussion you forgot that Ruben Amaro is the general manager of this team.
The Phillies have acquired INF John McDonald from the Cleveland Indians in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

The Phillies will send cash and a player to be named later the Indians way.
While McDonald has a career average below .240, he does bring a tremendous glove. But why do the Phillies need another tremendous glove off the bench when they already have Freddy Galvis? It simply feels like Ruben Amaro just made this move, to make a move. I can’t really think of any time that McDonald would play over Freddy Galvis, so I’m not sure what his purpose is going to be.
But hey, with Ruben Amaro’s wonderful track record, why should I question any move he makes. He knows more than me right? I’m sure that John McDonald will end up being a great addition. *Extreme Sarcasm Alert*
