Unless you work for 94 WIP or NBC Philly, chances are you don’t exactly have a high opinion of Howard Eskin. There are a whole host of reasons, but the biggest one is that he conducts himself like an annoying pr**k, for lack of a better term. And last night wasn’t an exception.
Charlie Manuel and Howard Eskin already have a history, getting in a feud in 2007 that caught national attention. I remember Eskin then going on seemingly every national radio and television show to try and cover up his image and make Charlie look like the bad guy. In reality, Eskin kept egging Charlie on until he finally exploded. Last night, Eskin struck again.
I had no problem with Eskin’s question originally, because as long as the offense continues to struggle, Charlie is going to face questions about the offense. That being said, I had no issue with Charlie’s response because I’m sure that he is getting sick of hearing questions about the offense. But as usual, even after Charlie must have made everyone in the room uncomfortable with his response, Eskin didn’t know when to stop. Like if someone explodes on you, and you already have a history with Manuel, maybe it isn’t the best to ask under your breath, “When the Phillies are going to score ten runs?”. Charlie Manuel may be nearly 70 years-old, but you are never to old to respond to a stupid question with a third grade level comeback. And when everyone hates the person that you are responding to, “When I knock you out,” actually becomes a pretty funny comeback.
