While Carlos Ruiz was supposed to be heading to the Double-A Reading Fightin’ Phils tonight to make one of his final tuneups before re-joining the Phillies, it appears that the Phillies saw all that they needed to see from Chooch in his rehab appearances at Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
C Carlos Ruiz has been activated from the DL. To make room for him on the roster, C Steven Lerud has been optioned to @IronPigs

The move to send Lerud down means that Ruiz will likely be starting behind the plate tonight, with Humberto Quintero returning to his role as backup catcher.
The hope for the Phillies is that Ruiz, who is returning from a grade two hamstring strain, can get back close to the form that made him an All-Star a season ago. After his return from a 25 game suspension for testing positive for Adderall, Ruiz looked like he had lost weight and his bat wasn’t nearly as powerful. In the 16 games that Chooch played this season before straining his hamstring, he was hitting at .235 with no homeruns and only two RBI’s.
