As if Chase Utley heading to the 15 day DL wasn’t painful enough for Phillies fans, now there is this.

Wes Helms and Abraham Nunez were pretty bad, but Michael Martinez takes it too a new level. I mean sure Michael Martinez was bad in 2011 when he hit .196 in 209 at-bats, but last year he just missed out on winning a Silver Slugger, hitting .174 in 115 at-bats. Phillies fans have to be elated about this move right? Right?

Let me put this in perspective. Fans and online blogs can have whatever reaction about someone that they don’t think highly of being called up, because they aren’t in the clubhouse dealing with the players on a day to day basis. David Murphy is in the Phils clubhouse, working for a living everyday, and pissing players off usually isn’t a good idea. But Murphy wasn’t done.

And don’t misunderstand my point, I am not criticizing Murphy at all. In fact I’m extremely happy someone with some standing actually stood up and voiced their opinion because everything Murphy said was on-point. Michael Martinez is not an MLB level player, and if the last two years didn’t prove that, well then I don’t know what Ruben Amaro Jr. needs to see.

But Murphy wasn’t even the best tweet on the Martinez matter. This was.

Hurry back Chase.
