Mike Vick believes that even with a recent influx of NFL QB’s who can scramble, that he is the quickest QB in the NFL. And specifically that includes that he is faster than the Redskins Robert Griffin or the 49ers Colin Kaepernick.
“These guys are young and they’re fast and they’re quick; the thing I do have is a very quick get-up,” Vick told NBC Sports Dan Patrick. “I really don’t feel like there’s a quarterback in the league who can beat me in a 40-yard dash. If somebody wants to set something up, I’ll be more than glad to accept the challenge. But as of right now I’m going to say me. But Colin Kaepernick is fast and RG III is fast as well.”
I don’t doubt that in a straight race, that Michael Vick is faster than Colin Kaepernick or Robert Griffin. The problem is in his first season as a starter, Colin Kaepernick took the 49ers further than Michael Vick has ever gone, winning the NFC Championship. And Robert Griffin didn’t do too shabby in his rookie season either, beating out Vick’s Eagles and the rest of the NFC East to win the NFC East crown. So what did Vick being the fastest QB last year really accomplish? Absolutely nothing.
Being fast hasn’t helped Michael Vick read defenses, hold onto the ball, or stay healthy. As Chris Carter of ESPN said of the news “Who cares if he is the fastest, this isn’t the Olympics.”
Mike, I think has been way to friendly with the media of late, considering he is getting less reps at practice than Nick Foles. He doesn’t appear like someone who understands how possible it is that he won’t be the starting quarterback for the Eagles next year, but it is a very realistic possibility. Vick needs to stay off Twitter, and away from the media and kill it to make sure that he is even a starter in 2014.
