Just a few days after Pro Football Focus ranked Evan Mathis as their number six player in the NFL in 2012, it appears Evan Mathis will miss much of the Eagles offseason minicamps, if not all.
This is according to Reuben Frank of CSN Phillywho reports that Mathis “had a minor surgical procedure” on his ankle. Frank also says that after going through the procedure Mathis is likely to miss all of the Eagles remaining offseason, which include OTA’s and minicamps, but should be good to go for training camp.
Mathis had a tremendous season last year on the Eagles line last year, and should have been a pro-bowl starter, so the Eagles should allow Mathis to get his ankle to 100 percent before bringing him back. That being said with Mathis out, it will be more difficult for Mathis and the rest of the Eagles line, to gain chemistry heading in the 2013 season. Certainly that is a concern, because for as bad as the offensive line was last year, it will become even more important in Chip Kelly’s offense in 2013.
