Chip Kelly, meet Pete Carroll. Carroll, meet Kelly.

It is beginning to look more and more like money wasn’t the only factor driving Chip Kelly’s decision to join the Philadelphia Eagles. Reports out of a newspaper and a television station in Portland have said the Ducks have agreed to at least one major NCAA violation related to recruiting practices by football coaches.

The Oregonian newspaper has reported Oregon would agree to self-impose a two year probation and a loss of scholarships over the next three years.

There’s talk that the NCAA and Oregon do not agree on the severity of the violation as it relates to a Texas-based scout who reportedly received $25,000 for his services.

As the old saying goes, if it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and waddles like a duck, then it must be…an Eagle. Anyone has to remember the almost immediate about-face Chip Kelly did when he was being pursued for the Eagles’ head coaching position. It looked like Lurie and co. would not get their man, then he immediately decides to trade Eugene green for Philly green.

It was not the first time such a move would have been done where a coach sees that he’s about to receive a letter of reprimand from Indianapolis (NCAA headquarters) and runs for his life to the NFL shield. Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll had no problem bolting USC for the ‘Hawks prior to the NCAA issuing major penalties against the Trojans related to the investigation into Reggie Bush and if he received improper benefits.

The majority of Eagles’ fans likely are not following Oregon football and only care at this point how either Michael Vick, Dennis Dixon, and Nick Foles will adapt to Chip Kelly’s offense that he’s bringing with him over from Eugene. In Eugene, though, the talk is very different in the possibility that heading for the Goodell hills ahead of NCAA penalties is contagious amongst Pac-12 coaches.
