The Philadelphia Phillies are off to a bit of a rough start at one and three, but one of the biggest positives so far is the performance out of Chase Utley.
Given his age, and the degenerative knee condition that Utley has, many people doubted whether Utley could still produce at the level of an elite second-baseman. Chase doesn’t seem to be too phased by his critics. Already this 2013 regular season, Chase is batting .467 with 1 homerun and 6 RBI’s. Not only are his numbers fantastic, but you can tell Chase is healthy based off of how well he is do small things like running the bases and the fact that the pop is clearly back in his bat, largely due to his rediscovered ability to use his legs to generate the power in his swing.
I love what I’m seeing out of Utley, because when he plays at a level this high it sparks the entire Phillies lineup. The Phillies need him to build on his hot start, and if Chase can stay healthy, he may just have one more big season left in him.
