The Philadelphia Phillies have a very uncertain future and there are two ways to look at; It could be positive, or it could be negative. All I know is it’s going to be very interesting and I’m hoping a bright future moving forward for this ball club.
When analyzing the team, what initially comes to mind is the fact that this is an aging team and are going to have trouble competing with a tough division like the NL East in years to come that is continuing to improve. But if you have a positive mindset like I do now, I believe their future is bright.
Roy Halladay may not be what he used to be, but this starting rotation is still scary-good. Remember, this team does have Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, and Cole Hamels, who is currently in his prime. Not to mention, John Lannan and Kyle Kendrick, who are good assets. And last but not least, 25-year old Tyler Cloyd, a guy who we saw last year who has shown some talent and potential. The bullpen improved as well, adding nice arms including Mike Adams and Chad Durbin.
This team is loaded with veterans. You have Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins, Ryan Howard, and Michael Young. All guys who are still productive and important pieces to this franchise.
Lastly, the Phils do have youth and young talent. The Phillies added Ben Revere, they have Domonic Brown, Darin Ruf, Fredy Galvis, Kevin Frandsen, Tyler Cloyd, and other good prospects featuring Tommy Joseph. Revere is a nice addition, as he will bring a decent bad, good defense, and speed. And Brown will hopefully progress and improve as the Phillies desperately need him to.
The Phillies are a very talented team, there’s no doubt about that. They are a team with a mixture of veterans and youth. If they can continue to take steps in the right direction, they will have a very bright future.
