Jrue Holiday is a star and fans are missing out waiting for Bynum

Fresh off of his first All-Star selection, Jrue Holiday welcomed in MVP candidate Carmelo Anthony and the Eastern Conference number two seed New York Knicks. This should have been a game that Sixers fans were pumped to watch their boys make a statement in. Instead a familiar friend showed pre-game, that most fans tuning in, in the Philly area and around the country, were tuning in to watch ‘Melo and the Knicks.

Jimmy Rollins tweeted the following before the game on Twitter, ”Anyone going to the Sixers/ Knicks game tonight! Melo balling out this year & always good to see J. Kidd.”

We love Jimmy in Philly, but once and while he sticks his foot in his mouth, and says things that rub us the wrong way. This was one of those cases. At the same time it demonstrated that unless you are a diehard Sixers fan, you are beginning to struggle to find reasons to watch this Sixers team.

Regardless of that tweet, and the fact that Wells Fargo seated as many Knicks fans as Sixers fans last night, Jrue Holiday demonstrated why fans might not want to forget about this team just yet.

Holiday looked like a bonafied star last night against the Knicks,  leading the Sixers to a 97-80 suprise win over the Knicks last night. That is huge, because the Sixers need big wins to get back into the playoff picture.

However, this game and the past week have shown Sixers fans more than just that Jrue Holiday is a very good young pointguard headed to the All-Star Game. Maybe as Sixers fans, we are not giving Jrue Holiday enough creidt for the progession he has demonstrated this season. As Sixers fans wait for Andrew Bynum, the Sixers ”Star” to make his debut for the team, maybe we are mising what is right in front of us.

Sure this team has not been fun to watch, but Jrue Holiday has. Sure everyone wants Andrew Bynum to make his debut, but Jrue Holiday is really balling right now. 35 points, six assits, five rebounds. And there is no star currently playing on this team? It is tough to make that case anymore.

When Andrew Bynum finally does make his debut, he will not be the only star on the court. He will be among one of the NBA’s top five pointguards this season, and a fellow star  in Jrue Holiday. Just don’t wait for the Sixers to get national headlines, to realize that.
