The Phillies have been making a lot of roster moves and transactions since the end of July. They started off with the blockbuster moves of Shane Victorino and Hunter Pence. They continued shaking their lineup as they traded Joe Blanton to the Dodgers. They made another move today as they have released infielder Mike Fontenot.
Fontenot was designated for assignment on August 1. The 32-year old appeared in 47 games this season for the Phillies. He had 97 at-bats during his time with the big league club and earned a .289 average. The infield is becoming somewhat of a crowded place for the Phillies at the MLB and AAA levels as they called up Hector Luna, Kevin Frandsen and Mike Martinez recently. It seems as if the Phillies have given up on Fontenot and decided to go in a different direction.
