Shady wins FedEx Ground Player of the Year

by News

A little more than three weeks ago the editor of Section 215, Frank Higgins, wrote a piece encouraging you all to vote for the Eagles’ running back, LeSean McCoy as the FedEX Ground Player of the Year award. Well, it seems as though you all listened to him as Shady won the honor. McCoy beat out Ray Rice from the Ravens and Maurice Jones-Drew from the Jaguars for the accolade.

The NFC Pro-Bowl starter at running back had 1,309 rushing yards this past season. He also notched 17 rushing touchdowns and had 20 total trips to the end zone in the 2011-12 season. McCoy also broke Steve Van Buren’s franchise record with those touchdown figures.

Shady has been nominated four times for this award and how won it twice now. On top of taking home the hardware FedEx will be donating a total of $50,000 to Junior Achievement Programs in the Greater New Orleans and the Delaware Valley. $25,000 will be in McCoy’s honor and the other $25,000 will be donated in the name of Saints quarterback Drew Brees, who was the recipient of the FedEX Air Player of the Year award.

Winning this award is just another showing of how great of an NFL rusher McCoy is. Unfortunately, he is stuck in the Eagles’ offense which refuses to commit to the running game. Hopefully in the 2012-13 season, he will get more touches and possibly more touchdowns. Maybe a heavier workload will help Vick stay healthy for 16 games, but that is another discussion for another day.
